about
Al (Alan Costello) had been involved in the food business for several years before taking the plunge to open his first Al’s State Street Café over eleven years ago in the Financial District at 112 State Street, Boston, MA 02109. From day one, Al’s goal was to provide the highest quality, best tasting subs at the lowest possible price. Al’s driving principle is that his customers are his “family” who deserve the absolute best food at great prices, a principle which continues to this day. This is why Al has such enthusiastic and devoted customers as evidenced by the reviews of Al’s cafes. Check out Al’s website at www.alscafes.com, the reviews on www.Yelp.com (4.5 to 5.0 star ratings) and the Phantom Gourmet (which has highlighted Al’s on numerous occasions). The recipe for Al’s success is simple. Combine a fanaticism to quality food and customer service with a loyalty to his customers/family and you end up with a sub sandwich which cannot be surpassed. Al does all this with the help of his mother (the cashier at the State Street location), his uncle Tony who opened Al’s South Street Café (near South Station) at 179 Essex Street, Boston, MA 02111 in September 2008, his cousin Deb who has done all of the murals and related artwork for the Al’s cafes, her husband Artie who operates the South Street Café with uncle Tony and a group of dedicated employees many of whom have worked for Al for the past 11 years. Al opened up his third location at 600 Tech Square, Cambridge in March 2011 with the same dedication to incredibly great tasting food at amazing prices and adding new items at the request of our customers.
